Hey!
After I tell people I'm going to university to do a nursing degree I get one of two responses; "wow that's amazing" or "WHY would you choose a nursing degree?" and actually, sadly, the second response seems to be more recurrent and isn't always said in a positive manner.
I am currently working as a carer - a job that I got through my college course when I was doing my NC Health and Social Care Level Six. It's a job I never in a million years would have pictured myself doing, despite my mum having the job for 25+ years. However, I. Am. In. Love. With. My. Job. I get to be the person that holds someone's hand through their toughest and best times, I get to learn about peoples lives - why they did what they did and why they think what they think. Through my job I am given the privallidge of working with amazing people with even more amazing stories. I have worked within a dementia unit, a residential unit, a learning disabilities unit and a severe behavioural issues unit. Each comes with it's own variations but I absolutely adore them all.
As much as I love my job I am an extremely goal orientated person. I continually want to push myself and improve myself. I also am a person who requires change as I can bore quite easily. This is why I have chosen a nursing degree. Within a nursing degree it comes with flexibility to constantly improve yourself and opens a wide range of doors to allow a million different career options. I love caring for people, I love helping people. As cliché as it might sound I think I was put on this earth to be a nurse. I am finally following my passions and it feels amazing.
Another amazing thing about going to do a degree means I am constantly learning. I love learning new things and working out different ways to deal with situations. Nursing gives me an opportunity to constantly be learning and constantly finding new opportunities. I am so excited to begin this journey and can't wait to document it all.
I am choosing to do a nursing degree because I want to help people and I want to be something strangers could aspire to be. I want to be something special - and that's what I'm going to be.
Have a good day and stay adventurous
